Getting to Know University Librarian Lorelei Tanji

 

Having served as UCI’s university librarian since 2012, Lorelei Tanji oversees the strategic vision, mission, and goals of the UCI Libraries. Among her responsibilities, Tanji also represents the UCI Libraries at the campus, system-wide, national, and international levels.

In her personal life, Lorelei enjoys a wide array of music and martial art activities. In addition to playing second violin in a chamber music group, Lorelei also enjoys playing the piano, harpsichord, viola da gamba, and theremin.

Call for Participation: UCI Students Needed for Library Spaces Focus Groups

UCI Libraries are seeking students to participate in a focus group on library spaces. The purpose of the focus group is to learn more about how the library spaces can better serve students, and feedback will be used to improve the Libraries as a whole. 

Focus group sessions will take approximately 60 minutes. Note that sessions will be recorded and transcribed, but the footage will not be shared beyond the Libraries.

Exhibit | Electrifying Music: The Untold Story of Remi Gassmann

Electrifying Music celebrates the life and legacy of Remi Gassmann, an American composer and pioneer in electronic sound and music. Best known for his innovative ballet scores and his soundtrack to Alfred Hitchcock’s film The Birds, Gassmann helped introduce twentieth-century audiences to new musical aesthetics and compositional styles and championed the emerging works of his contemporaries. 

UCI Libraries Receives 2024 Library Excellence in Access and Diversity (LEAD) Award

Insight Into Diversity magazine’s LEAD Award recognizes UCI Libraries for making a difference for underrepresented groups.


UCI Libraries has received the 2024 Library Excellence in Access and Diversity (LEAD) Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education. The LEAD Award honors academic libraries’ programs and initiatives that encourage and support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across their campuses. 

UC Extends Open Access Agreement with Wiley

The University of California has extended its open access agreement with scholarly journal publisher Wiley for an additional three years. From January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2026, researchers and students at all 10 UC campuses and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will receive continued access to subscription content and funding support for open access publication in Wiley’s expansive journal portfolio.

Assistive Technology Tool Added on All UCI Libraries Public Computers

 

Morphic, an assistive technology tool that helps individuals easily find and use a PC’s built-in accessibility features, is now available on all UCI Libraries public computers. Instead of relying on a limited number of computers with specialized software, library patrons can access assistive technology (AT) conveniently and discreetly on all desktop computers in Langson Library, Science Library, and the Grunigen Medical Library on the UCI Medical Campus in Orange.
