The UCI Libraries announce the opening of a new exhibit, Donald McKayle: Dancing for all Time, on Wednesday, November 7th at 5:30PM in Crystal Cove Auditorium, UCI Student Center. Dennis Nahat, Producing Manager of THE DONALD McKAYLE LEGACY and Founder/President of Theatre Ventures International; and Debbie Blunden-Diggs, Artistic Director of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company are the opening night guest speakers. Associate Professor of Dance - UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts, Jennifer Fisher, will moderate the conversation.

Donald McKayle: Dancing for all Time shines light on the life of Distinguished Professor Donald McKayle; capturing his life as a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and activist. Seminal pieces like Rainbow Round My Shoulder, They Called Her Moses, and District Storyville may be featured, alongside more contemporary and lesser known works like Uprooted and Crossing the Rubicon. Additional themes in the exhibit may include McKayle’s connection to UCI, African Americans in dance, and exploration of how McKayle’s works reflect the civil protest and societal unrest of then and now.

The program will be followed by a reception and exhibit viewing in Langson Library, UCI. The event is free and open to the public; reservations are first come, first served. For further information please call 949.824.4651 or email partners@uci.edu.

Dancing for all Time is curated by Scott Stone, Research Librarian for Performing Arts and Derek Quezada, Outreach and Public Services Librarian, Special Collections & Archives; and is designed by Jennifer Betonio, Allan Helmick and Sylvia Irving.
