As a result of a year- long process of investigation, evaluation, product testing, and assessment, the UCI Libraries and UCI Law Library will implement a new Library Services Platform (LSP) via the implementation of the Ex Libris products Alma and Primo.
Many users may be familiar with the conventional term Library Management Systems (LMS/ILS). A LSP is the “next generation” of library management systems that provides the capabilities to better manage our collections in all formats, and handle the ever-growing means of access for electronic resources and print materials.
Primo will help users easily find and access print and electronic resources from within our Libraries’ collections as well as worldwide. Alma will enable the Libraries to improve efficiency and productivity by further automating processes and improving integration.
While we implement the new system, ANTPAC and Integrated Library System (which includes the financial and circulation systems) will continue to be available, so users won’t immediately see a change. In the Spring of 2018, users will have an opportunity to preview the new system. There will be training sessions and opportunities for feedback as we adapt the new system to our local needs. We anticipate that the go-live date for the new system will be in the Summer of 2018. The Libraries are grateful to campus administration for providing funds to support the costs of implementing this new system.
