In December, the UCI Libraries hosted a grand opening for a new study area on the first floor of Langson Library. This space, called the Korea Corner, was made possible by generous support from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles delegated by the Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Korea Corner, provides Korean literature, history, and cultural resources for students, faculty, and the community. In coming months, the area will be furnished with new comfortable seating and will also provide convenient access to Korea related books and videos, a multi-region media player to view the videos, and Korean cultural decorations. We hope that the large Korean community at UCI and students interested in Korean studies will find this area a valuable resource for research, collaboration and studying.
To celebrate the Korea Corner’s grand opening, the UCI Libraries partnered with the newly established Center for Critical Korean Studies and welcomed a delegation from the Consulates’ Office to a VIP reception and ribbon cutting ceremony. UCI Faculty and students showcased their interdisciplinary research and shared insights for how the center and the Korea Corner will help expand Korean research and culture across campus. After the speakers and ribbon cutting, all guests were invited to go to Lower Gateway Plaza for traditional Korean food and cultural performances.
