Tiffany Esteban is the new digital scholarship librarian for the Digital Scholarship Services (DSS) department. Strengthening knowledge of digital research in multiple fields, she offers instruction and research assistance. As part of her role, Tiffany supports the use of digital technologies, research methods, and instruments in research, teaching, and scholarly publishing. Informed about digital scholarship standards, trends, and technologies, she also offers workshops, meetings, and tutorials and is available to work directly with researchers.

Head of DSS Madelynn Dickerson anticipates an expansion of the Libraries’ influence with Tiffany’s addition to their team.

“With Tiffany, our DSS department is able to increase the Libraries’ reach even further to connect with researchers across disciplines engaging in innovative, digitally robust research,” said Dickerson. “Tiffany comes to us with a great depth of experience in digital research methods and tools as well as significant experience with teaching and providing consultations to students, faculty, and other researchers.”

Tiffany’s Professional Experience

Before joining UC Irvine, Tiffany worked as the digital humanities associate at the University of Florida for close to six years. As digital humanities associate, she taught university students about digital humanities methods, oversaw digital humanities programming, and advised students, faculty, and staff on digital humanities projects. She was also involved with the University of Florida’s Digital Humanities Working Group and served as a digital library assistant, becoming skilled in the development of digital libraries. Additionally, she is familiar with digital humanities tools such as Zotero, a reference management tool, and Omeka Classic, a digital exhibit platform. Tiffany has a master of science in information from Florida State University and a bachelor of arts in English from the University of Florida.

Tiffany encourages student, faculty, and staff with digital scholarship interests to reach out to her for consultations.

“Much of what I hope to do in my first year revolves around getting to know people on campus and figuring out how to support them,” Tiffany explained. “I’m looking forward to hearing more about the different digital projects that everyone is working on. If you’re interested in exploring ideas or untangling some technical problem, but you aren’t sure where to start, you can talk to me.”
