Did you know that you can still enjoy the Libraries’ resources over the summer? UC Irvine affiliates (students, staff, and faculty), both on and off campus, can attend workshops, unwind with free entertainment options, and access research help, to name just a few.

Workshops

The summer is the perfect time to take a workshop and either brush up on a rusty skill or learn a new one — and because they’re asynchronous and online, you can attend at your own speed. Python programming and Version Control with Git workshops begin in July 2026. Self-paced workshops on geospatial data analysis and visualization, OpenRefine, and social science are also available year-round.

Video Streaming, Ebooks, and News

The video streaming service Kanopy has two film collections with a summer theme: Summer Reading from Book to Screen and Best of Summer. If you’re more interested in wider-reaching topics, Docuseek streams a wide variety of independent, social-issue, and environmental films. Medici.tv, a classical music channel, also has summer collections: Summer Night Concerts, 2009–2025, A Summer Night at the Ballet, and Summer Concerts at the Waldbühne. Learn how you can stream media for free and what’s provided on the Streaming Media Research Guide.

Looking to unwind with a good summer read? Check out the Libraries’ ebooks on Overdrive.

UC Irvine affiliates can also keep up with current events through our free news access, which includes The New York Times, The Orange County Register, The Washington Post, Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and more.

Research Help

Working on a research project this summer? Research help will continue to be offered — you can meet with a subject librarian, take advantage of the Libraries’ online chat service, talk to Check Out Desk staff, or contact the Libraries at 949-824-0633. The Ask a Librarian webpage highlights additional services.

Our buildings will remain open all summer long with modified hours. Please visit the UC Irvine Libraries hours webpage for more information.
