Premium access to The Economist is now available to all UC Irvine authorized affiliates. Current UCI students and employees with an active UCInetID can enjoy full access to the Economist.com as well as the mobile app, newsletters, podcasts, and live subscriber-only events.

In addition to new premium access subscription, UCI affiliates can also access back issues through the Libraries via The Economist Historical Archive from the Gale publishing company. Released in 2007, the archive contains 8,000 issues since The Economist was first published in 1843. Including images and multiple search indexes, combined the premium access subscription and historical archive offer commentary and analysis of global news from the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries.

About The Economist

Founded in 1843 to support the cause of free trade, The Economist produces independent journalism on topics from technology to geopolitics, finance, and economics. Known for its rigorous fact-checking and high editorial standards, The Economist publishes global business intelligence, data, interpretive analyses, and news.

To maintain independence, its parent company, The Economist Group, does not permit any individual or organization to gain a majority shareholding. Individual articles are also written anonymously and published without bylines because “its collective voice and personality matter more than the identities of individual journalists.”

How to Access

To access content on or off campus, UCI affiliates should set up a premium account using their @uci.edu email address on the Economist.com login page. See The Economist Library Guide for step-by-step instructions.
