New Research Librarian for Biological Sciences
Angelissa Panganiban is the new research librarian for biological sciences for the UC Irvine Libraries and is based in the Reference department. In addition to handling collections for the School of Biological Sciences, Angelissa offers instruction, outreach, and research consultations for the school’s students and faculty. She may also provide reference consultations and instruction for the College of Health Sciences and is the Libraries’ liaison to the Campuswide Honors Collegium.
Before joining UC Irvine, Angelissa served as a research assistant at the University of British Columbia and student librarian at the University of British Columbia’s Woodward Library. She became knowledgeable there about scientific and medical databases, including Web of Science, PubMed, MEDLINE, and SciFinder. Helping with the information needs of students, researchers, and faculty, she also co-led an evidence-based medical database searching workshop for graduate students. She has a master of library and information studies from the University of British Columbia and an honors bachelor of science in life sciences, majoring in human biology and psychology, from the University of Toronto.
“The Reference department is thrilled to have Angelissa join our team,” said Cynthia Johnson, head of Reference and the Grunigen Medical Library. “She brings to the Libraries experience working in both science and medical libraries and a passion for biological science librarianship.”
